Every time we have stomach discomfort, heartburn, and indigestion we take an antacid. Is this the best solution? Do antacids and acid blockers solve that problem or just cause another? Let’s answer these questions:
Where does indigestion come from?
It stems from not digesting your food thoroughly and the undigested food causes discomfort and other health problems. It is not because we have an antacid drug deficiency. But we do have an enzyme deficiency.
How do antacids work?
Antacid drugs work by either neutralizing the stomach acids or by blocking acid production. When using antacids, non-beneficial bacteria can enter your body because the acid bath is not there to protect you from the germs and bacteria that goes in your mouth.
The HCL (stomach acid) in your stomach destroys harmful bacteria that can enter into our bodies that could be in our food or in the air we breathe. Without this protection we open ourselves to harmful organisms and possible bad bacteria with numerous infections.
So is destroying the acid bath really the best solution?
Indigestion almost always occurs from eating cooked and processed foods or not chewing raw foods good enough to release the digestive enzymes they contain. Remember cooked and processed foods do not have any enzymes. 118 degrees destroys all digestive enzymes normally occurring in ALL raw foods.
The key is to eat more raw foods less processed foods and get away from the acid blockers which prevent proper digestion and instead encourage the proper digestion of your foods.
You might try taking digestive enzymes and probiotics to help your discomfort.
