Most of us have hectic schedules, and it’s hard to find time to do everything all in one day. Staying up late to finish a project, waking up early to get off to school or work- things get busy! So we resort to caffeine to give us a boost, or to keep us going throughout the day. But let’s face it, caffeine can come with nasty side effects, from headaches to mood swings to hunger, and the list goes on! There has to be a better way to get a boost naturally, and side-effect free. We have compiled a list of the four best things you can do for your body to get energy and stay focused no matter what comes your way!
1. Do A Quick Workout
Craving that caffeine-rich cup of coffee to get you going in the morning? Think again! Studies show that exercising can actually boost your energy levels all day! So while your cup of coffee will get you started, exercise will not only get you going in the morning, but will keep you going all day long! Running short on time this morning? That’s OK. Get your body moving by taking the stairs at work, or do a quick 1 minute of jumping jacks in your office. You will feel more awake- and alert- for whatever comes next!
2. Eat Some Protein
Feeling low on energy? Have a quick protein-filled snack. Think edamame, a handful of almonds, or apples and almond butter. Eating snacks like this will rev up your metabolism and keep you feeling full longer, helping to reduce those nasty sugar cravings that leave you feeling sleepy. Didn’t have time to pack snacks this morning? Go out and grab a smoothie, and add a free protein boost. Or pack a baggie of Ultra-Nutrition Shake™ the night before, and add it to your favorite juice.
3. Talk About It
Studies have shown that having a conversation with a friend can make you feel more alert. So make a phone call on your break! Call someone who you know is fun and interesting to talk to. Talking about topics that you are interested in will wake your brain up and keep you going. So take a minute and call your mom, sister, best friend, or significant other and chat it up!
4. Take a cold shower
Trying to relax and wind down for the day? A warm shower will help relax your mind and body and get you ready for a peaceful night’s sleep. But if you are trying to wake up, a warm shower in the morning will work against you! Taking a cool shower will wake up your senses and stimulate your system! What if you are out and about when you start feeling sleepy? Find a bathroom and splash cold water on your face. If you are wearing makeup, feel free to skip the splashing and dab a cold paper towel on the back of your neck, then go get yourself a cold drink. This will speed up your circulation and give you that natural boost your body needs.
