What is Melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland, a small gland in the brain. Melatonin helps control your sleep and wake cycles. Very small amounts of it are found in foods such as meats, grains, fruits, and vegetables. The production of Melatonin decreases as we get older. A decrease in Melatonin levels can lead to a compromised immune system and an increase in cell disorders, heart dysfunction, and high blood pressure.

What does natural melatonin do in the body?

Your body has its own internal clock that controls your natural cycle of sleeping and waking hours. In part, your body clock controls how much melatonin your body makes. Normally, melatonin levels begin to rise in the mid- to late evening, remain high for most of the night, and then drop in the early morning hours. Light affects how much melatonin your body produces. During the shorter days of the winter months, your body may produce melatonin either earlier or later in the day than usual.

Vital skin hormones

Antioxidants aren't the only weapons available to us in the fight for smooth, radiant skin. The sleep hormone (melatonin) is found in human skin, and although the exact roles of it are still under scrutiny, researchers have identified several mechanisms through which these hormones protect against skin aging and maintain the overall health of the skin.

A German Study

The study proved melatonin's potency as a free radical scavenger. Its antioxidant properties actually beat out the super powerful vitamin C, which came in a close second. Research from the Department of Dermatology at the University of Zurich demonstrated the efficacy of melatonin in protecting us from the destructive hydroxyl free radical. A distinct dose response relationship was observed between the topical dose of melatonin and the degree of UV-induced damage. The researchers concluded that melatonin enhances the skin's ability to repair itself from free radical damage suffered from photo aging, incurred during daylight hours. Studies have indicated that melatonin is absorbed by skin when applied topically.

Ingredients;

Hyaluronic acid;  is a substance that plumps and softens skin. Hyaluronic acid is a viscous, gooey substance that's a key component in connective tissue. It lubricates the joints and forms a barrier on the skin and gives a soft moisturizing effect that makes skin smoother. Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient in topical beauty products, such as moisturizers and makeup, as well. One of the substance's features is that it draws moisture from the air and is said to hold up to 1, 000 times its weight in water.

Aloe Vera 200X;  Is processed from the inner fillet of the aloe leaf. Care is taken to minimize disruption of the Aloin layer. Used for cosmetic and nutraceutical applications. Certified Organic. Aloe Vera; Has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral compounds.. It also has immune-stimulating and anti inflammatory compounds, and it stimulates collagen synthesis and skin regeneration. Aloe gel contains vitamins C and E, plus the mineral zinc.

Avocado Oil;  For skin care purposes helps to increase collagen production naturally. The sterolins found in avocado oil can also reduce blemishes and also relieve damaged skin, in particular damage caused by sun exposure. Some of the great vitamins found in avocado oil for skin rejuvenation include vitamins A, various B vitamins including B1 & B2, vitamin D and E, as well as beta-carotene, potassium as well as lethicin.

Lavender Oil;  Is an essential oil obtained by distillation from the flower spikes of certain species of lavender. The scent has a calming effect which may aid in relaxation and the reduction of anxiety and stress. The oils are absorbed quickly into the blood stream, thus assisting the body and mind.
